so that last few days we have been having a heat wave with temperatures reaching the 90's at the beach and 100+ inland. where i have been working it has been about 95. [rant on] so these four college schmuks pull up in a toyota highlander, get out of the vehicle and leave the dog in the car. wtf? i am by no means an animal lover and i don't particularly like dogs but i do follow a live and let live policy and locking fido in the car on a 95 degree day is absolutely not letting live. so i make it a point to mention this to them as they are getting out of the vehicle and the guy asks me if i know of any parking in the shade. i tell him, "look around. do you see any shade available? you really need to take the dog with you or go home." he says, "we can't take him in to the restaurant with us." and i said, "then go home." they did not. instead they cracked the windows and went on in. people like this really need to be shot. [rant off]

Seriously, I hate people like that. I have tags in my car to put under the wipers of people with dogs in their cars on hot days. I always keep a few of them in my glovebox.

On a side note, I hate people that ding your car and don't leave anything. I have had my car repainted and fixed so it looked showroom fresh... and now i have a nice 8 inch scuff down my passanger side. ON BRAND NEW PAINT

thats [censored] up, always figures doesn't it

and back on topic, would you leave a child in the car like that? I don't think so, a pet is like a family member if you actually car about your pet, and again you wouldn't to that to a family member would you?

Well according to the news today a man in Florida forgot to take his 5-month old daughter to day care before going to work, so instead he left her in the car all day in 95 degree weather.. Need less to say the baby died and I hope to god he does to. What a complete idiot, he should have been shot on-sight.

Next time that happens, take the time to call the police. It's animal cruelty and the owner will be ticketed at the very least. Dogs don't last very long in hot cars, even with the windows cracked.

yeah I thought of it because I was remebering the CSi episode where that happens in the beginning, but that was on purpose also in that story ...

I think that maybe only in a few states, VA being one I know this because my step-sister called the cops on a car that had a dog in it last week when it was like 90 here in Ashburn, VA. Cops came and broke their window AND issued them a ticket, what I'd do to be a cop for a day.

i didn't call anyone because i am not supposed to be on the phone and i had no idea who to call so making a bunch of calls to find out wasn't an option. does anyone know the exact group to inform?

Just call the local PD. They are usually well connected with the Animal Control department.
