I am currently looking for a tranny to replace my breaking one.
(third gear grind issue, now 2nd gear)

I have a 98.5 Ford Contour V6 MTX-75

I have found a 96 Mystique V6 5spd transmission for a really good deal..

Are the two interchangeable ? or are they the same?

I do not think it will work without extensive modification. Pre-98's are rod shift compared to cable shift which is what comes on post-98's.

since they are both from a V6 you are all set there but the whole rod vs cable shifter would be the issue

I understand that you cannot convert the transmission from rod shift to cable shift, and that converting the car to accept the other shifting mechanism is not easy since it was not built with the intention of being able to be converted.

Basically, it is not practical to make the switch. The one person that posted that he had converted an early car from rod linkage to cable linkage said that he would never attempt it again.

how much where you getting that 96 trans for...just wondering cause i have a 96 that needs a trans.
