I understand this isn't the Troubleshooting area but I'm kinda caught and need some assistance...

It's a '98, 4 cyl, 145,000km, Sport Edition.

PROBLEM 1.

It idles a little erratically (750rpm drops to 500rpm then back). It does this whenever it's at lights and sometimes when it's in park.

PROBLEM 2.

It has started to hiccup/stutter when I accelerate (either from a stoplight or when I enter a highway). It seems to run well when I reach a cruising speed.

From everything I've researched, I'm of the mind that it might be clogged/dirty spark plug wires or the ignition coil. Otherwise, perhaps a fuel filter and/or pump.

Any suggestions for these? Are they related?

Thanks!!!

Sounds more like a dirty IAC. Start with simple things and then work your way up. Try cleaning the IAC with carb cleaner, it's a relatively quick job.

Start by cleaning the IAC (as was already suggested). It is always wise to clean the throttle body at the same time as well as add a bottle of high quality injector cleaner to the tank. I like Techron or Red Line.

If the stutter/hickup persists, have a good look at the plugs and plug wires.
