Hey everyone at 100,000 I switched to 10-30 Mobil 1 synteic everything is fine, even drove to Florida to NYc 2 times.
I am currenly using 4 quarts of Mobil 1 10-30 and 1 Quart of Lucas Synetic Stablizer. People tell me this is a waist but it helps me sleep. First of all is this combo any good and how often should i change the oil with the type of combination, bare in mind my car does have 138,000, but runs GREAT. any advice is welcomed, thakns alot iam currently changing every 5,000

pretty well acknowledged by the gurus of these boards that duratechs require 6 quarts in order to minimize the risk of spinning bearings and destroying the engine.

your new routine may be fine, but you shouldn't make enthusiastic right hand turns until you've poured another quart in the oilpan.

6 quarts...may manual [V-6, 97] says 5.5. What's deal here, did Ford mess up on the manual or is this an after the fact discovery??

My manual says 5.8.

The issue though is that the 2.5 has inadequate oil drainback. They did not provide adequate drainback holes from the head back to the pan. What happens, is that you can end up sucking air instead of oil into the oil pump with high revs on long sweeping right hand turns (like some freeway on ramps).

To partly resolve this, many keep the oil level a bit high. I use 6 quarts. Some here use as much as 6.5 quarts.

It is also best to avoid hard spirited driving on long sweeping right hand turns.

By the way, i don't think much of Lucas products. You would be better off just using 6 quarts of quality oil. There are worse snake oils, but there is no true benefit except that it made your wallet lighter.

Also, this engine prefers 5W30.

Listen to big Jim, and read the Oil FAQ!.

Don't bother with Lucas, run 5W-30 or 0W-40, get an analysis after 5k miles and see what they say. Run 6 qts at the minimum. If you take ramps or other right-hand turns at high speed, run 6.5. All the info is in the FAQ, the latest version is at the bottom.

I just though that would help the reduce the buring, does no one like Lucas Products? Also my car got 138,000 and i been using 4 quARTS MObil 1 10-30w AND 1 QUART LUCAS SO CAN I MAKE THIS CHANGE SINCE MY CAR IS USE TO THE 5 QUART THING.

Yes, your engine will like it.

Run 6 qts of Mobil 1 synthetic (no more than that as it will put extra strain on the gaskets and there's really no benefit)

Do bother with oil additives. They probably do more harm that good as all oils (synthetics especially) are forumlated with the right balance of components. Adding these aftermarket additives screws up that balance.

Does the V6 have a windage tray? I don't have my manual with me. If it does, you can get away with a little more oil because the tray will keep the oil off of the crank CW.
