allright i'm sure i am freakn retarded

but i want to add a sub or two to my contour. Currently i have 4 pioneer 6x9's installed in the doors already and a panasonic mp3 cdplayer headunit that has like 40-50 wats x4 channels or something like that (can't remember don't have the book)

my question is... i want to add a sub or two and i'm not sure how to go about doing it. do i just add a sub and amp to the sub and feed that to the headunit or do i fead the door speakers to the amp as well as the sub then back to the headunit or what?

i'm not quite sure what you guys normaly do but i want it to sound nice,

anyboyd have any suggestions on subs, amps, and setup?

i looked at that basslink (yes i did go back several pages looking before i posted) and its out of my price range

any help is appreciated thanks

First and foremost you will have to run a power wire straight from the battery to an amp for the subs. Probably at least 4 gauge. You will have to ground the amp to the chassis, run a remote wire and RCAs from the radio to the amp. Remote wire is to tell the amp to turn on, the RCAs send the signal to the amp. That is the basic jist. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself you can always have a shop do it. It shouldn't cost too much. But look to spend at least $60 on a complete amp wiring kit, all be it not the best stuff but it should get you bye if your on a budget.

As far as equipment recomendations. My advice is to audition as many amps and subs you can before you buy. There will be a lot of different people recommending alot of different products, some of which you've never heard of. MOst of them are very good and cost effective. But in the end you'll need to choose something that sounds good to YOU and is within your budget.

P.S. STAY AWAY FROM AUDIOBAHN, You can thank me later

just kidding. it depends what you actually have. The best buy 1800 watt super duper bandpass system is probably loaded with a couple piecs of [censored] that could maybe handle a couple hundred watts a piece. Also realize most advertised wattages are MAX ratings and are usually over rated with that (with cheaper brands). People pay way too much attention to wattage: "I got 400 watt 6x9's", "2000 watt subs", etc.
So you gotta find out the rms ratings on the subs and find a sub that puts out that amount of power at whatever ohm load the subs would give.

For the subs, look for a one channel amp that will deliver 1000-1200wrms at 2 ohms.

You would more than likely need a seperate amplifier for the 6x9s, now it wouldnt matter if you get a 4 channel or a 2 channel... you'll just lose the fade function on a 2 channel

made this real quick...maybe it'll help an audio virgin...

Make sure you use a fuse between the amp and the battery so you dont fry it!
