Meado1555 New CEG\'er M Joined: Feb 2005 Posts: 17 Virginia	My '98 CSVT now has 231,000 miles, with no timing chain rattle. Did you listen under the hood for where the noise comes from? I had some noise seemingly near the valve covers that turned out to be the accessory drive belt idler. Mechanic said he's seen old belts make similar noise that goes away just by replacing the belt. '98 E0 Contour SVT 245,000 miles and counting.....

It just sounds so much like a chain rattling that I don't want to get my hopes up that it may be easy to fix. call me a pessimist. I'm sure a timing chain job would run upwards of $1,000. If I'm looking at that much, I may as well just do a 3L swap. I'd love to just trade the damn thing in for a Mazda 3s 98.5 SVT FOR SALE $5000
