I did a search for the shop labour time on this and came up with .5 to .75 hours. Would anyone have the offical data on this so I can print it out and bring it to the shop when I have this done? I know people have done this themselves but I have no time or patience to do this myself this summer as home renovations are taking up all my time.

many thanks!

dude seriously, putting the serpentine belt will take you less than 5 minutes. you might need an extra set of hands to deal with the tensioner, but seriously, I did mine the other day cause it popped off, too easy.

I found if you put the belt around all the pulleys and then using a hammer handle, push the belt under the idler at the top, you dont have to mess with moving the spring loaded tensioner pulley. This is on the zetec 4 cylinder.

I would do it myself, but I have a lot more $$$ than time/patience right now so just looking for what FORD should be charging for the job. I know it isn't a big job, but I just couldn't be bothered. Thanks for the responses.

And based on previous posts, the Canadian labor rates are much lower than us (especially in the DC area).

These labor guides are just that, guides. Any shop is free to charge whatever they feel is correct or whatever the traffic will bear.

Armed with this info, if you feel that the quote is too high, feel free to check around. My experience has been that most shops (dealer and independent) charge a bit more than the guide.

Based on the rate at the dealer I go to ($85 an hour), they would be charging $42 and tax canadian for the serpentine belt labour, provided they can do it in 1/2 hour. In my experience, the dealer normally does it faster than an independant garage as they are used to working on these cars.
