3 out of 5. Not bad, great visuals but, even though it's not a "remake", the Gene Wilder version is much better. A lot sweeter and more magical.

Burton sure has a thing for daddy didn't love me stories. Depp is good, but someone mentioned he reminded them of Michael Jackson and he did a bit, that and a woman. Very odd portrayal.

It's worth seeing once, but it's just not a great movie. Good, eerie at times.

Also, you can't understand the Oompha Loompha (sp?)'s songs at all.

Haven't seen it, but I'm pretty sure I won't like it.

The Willy Wonka character requires a crazy, eccentric, but still very likable portrayal for it to work. I'm sure Depp has got the crazy eccentric part, but I think he has substituted creepy for likable.

Gene Wilder hit the portrayal spot on, and even from the previews, I can tell Depp is pretty far off.

I still think MArilyn Manson should've played Wonka.

I don't know why they remade this movie. The original is timeless... you can't really tell when it was made, since the majority of it takes place in the factory.

Depp's usually pretty good, though, so I'll catch it on DVD if I remember.

I really liked it.

Depp as wonka - wierd, but good. Jako mixed with Austin Powers. Love Depp and Wilder both for different reasons.

Burton as director - perfect. Glad he was the one to do make this movie. Much bigger, grander, and better. There are things that are better served in 2005 than back in 1971.

Oompa-Loompas - freakin hilarious. The songs were a bit tough to make-out, but each one made me lose it Part of that is also Burton's touch, but Elfman had the most to do with it I'm sure.

Definetly will be buying the DVD

elfman did a good job with the music, probably with some help from burton. but i give most credit to author roald dahl who wrote all of the lyrics.

In the book (as told to me from an 11 year olds POV) Willy Wonka is not a very nice person, especially to kids, because of his childhood. They touch on Wonka's life from childhood a bit ore in this movie, and there are some different characters and such. IMO, Wilder was what I remember this movie for, and Depp, as good as he is, does not hit that same mark...Depp is almost a little bit mousy and kinda queer (in the movie that is). I personally did not like the Oompa Loompa as one character, and he didn't even sing the song they are so famous for. I could ramble on, I suppose...it is worth seeing, the kids enjoyed it quite a bit since they haven't seen the old one yet. I'd check it out on DVD if I could (hind sight 20/20).
