Yeah the sensors only cost about $150 for two of them, if you do it yourself you will save a ton of cash.

It is unbelievable the prices that these shops charge . O2 sensors are fairly simple for anyone to take care of. Do it yourself for sure.

I've seen them at $49 USD. Disconnect the Battery.Put a small amount of Neverseize on the threads and use a tourque wrench. Reconnect the battery and the brainbox will be reset.

Mechanics have to make a decent living, just like the rest of us. I don't mind paying to have my work done, especially since I HATE working on cars.

Ya, but think of all the overhead...that per hour goes to the owner of the shop who 'most likely' is renting the shop, still paying for the 100's of thousand dollars of tools, pays his employees, all utilities and then has to keep some money for himself.
I worked at a shop...I hate paying that rate too, but the mechanic doesn't get all of it...now in my case my boss owned the land, owned the shop, had the tools paid off, only had 4 mechanics under him and paid them next to nothing...well he just bought a new Ford GT...he charges 75/hr and is busy as he!!

I don't have the space or a suitable place to use a jack and stands (townhouse, no garage), I don't like dealing with spent fluids, and most jobs just come easier with a lift and air tools, so I throw my local shop quite a few jobs. It's good to have a place that you can cultivate a relationship with over the course of some regular oil changes, so if you really DO find yourself in a bind, you're more likely to get good, honest service.

The cost of service is the exact reason I'm trying to start doing most "non-warranty" work myself. Even some warranty work I do myself, because of the hassle of giving up my car for a day or so...
