I went to gut my precats today. car up on jacks so on. used a crapload of liquid wrench on all the bolts. yet I still can't break any loose. in fact one of them when i turned the wrench it turned fairly easily but stripped the nut while doing so. which leads me to my first question
1. are all the bolts actually 15 mm? seemed like I could get a 14 on em pretty well.
2. is there anything I can do about the bolt that got stripped???
3. is this all even worth it?
4. should I just save up and wait for a set from msds?

if possible I would like to go with getting my precats gutted out, think maybe I could get a shop in the chicago area to just do it for me?

That's illegal!

I would say if the 14mm fits better than use it, who cares what it "supposed" to be.

As anyone who works on cars will tell you, bolts located under the car (exhaust) must be heated in order to loosen them. Lubricant spray won't do it alone. As for the stripped one. Heat it up, use vise grips to remove it, jam a smaller socket on it, or get one of those special sockets that connect to stripped heads.

If you plan to get MSDS headers in the future, just wait until then and don't worry about gutting the precats. It is such a huge pain to take those stock manifolds off that once you get them back on you will never want to take them off again.

If you think those bolts on the manifolds are tough, wait until you get to the bolt on the alternator (remember, you don't have to remove the alternator, but you will likely have to rotate it to the side.) I hope you have lots of socket extensions and U-Joints because you will need them as well as some band aids.

MSDS headers are well worth it once they are on, but all that work for gutted precats is not worth the trouble IMHO, if you are planning on getting MSDS anyway.
