I am interested in rebuilding my motor and tranny. The main goal would be to get a competetive package for SCCA. When I go about doing the tranny what Torque Converter sould I get. Now am I miss lead or would a stock converter be better than a stall converter for SCCA?
Thanks for the answers,
E.H.

Solo 2?

Do you have an automatic? Because that won't be very competitive in Solo 2.

Um, I don't know much about stall converters, I thought they were something used in automatic drag transmissions. Does SCCA do drag racing? I've never heard of such a thing. The Contour isn't really a drag car, at all, so I can't see it being competitive.
So: what transaxle do you have, and what kind of competition are you doing?

Manual Transmissions don't have torque converters. Your best bet it a factory torque converter. I don't believe anyone makes a high stall converter for your tranny, as one member has had one made though.

Level 10 or whoever makes them, but Russel had another shop build one for his ATX. Search a bit on some keywords in the transaxel forum and you'll be able to find a lot of info on them.
Edit: 2nd page of results for "torque converter" and I found this.....

Yes I have a auto. and yes it would be for Solo2. It might not be as good as a manual but when it's what you've got you do the best with it.

Well, get a transaxle cooler to keep it from dying. But if you're spending a ton of money on the car, you might be better off selling it and getting a manual. You will be at a real disadvantage.
That said, have fun! There's no shame in running anything: I heard of a guy running a pickup! (pics are somehwere, maybe I'll find them...)

There was a fella, a few years ago, here in MS that took the state title for SCCA AutoX and drove an auto Contour SE!!
