I just received my CF Hood and was wandering if I had to use hood pins or if I could get away with not using them. Dont really want to drill in the new hood.

I would put em in just to be sure...can never be to safe...but about the drilling always remember....

Measure twice, cut once! and you'll be fine.

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

First CF hood on silver frost =
Second is it a cowl? IF it is, I'd go ahead and get the pins but I've actaully seen a couple with out them. If it OEM style like mine, then you are fine with out them, just modify the latch and you are good to go.

RawBurt - i am getting a CF1 OEM hood sometime soon: how would you modify the latch?
i would prefer it without pins but if thats what it needs then thats what it will get. how does the pins attach and what does it attach to? just curious...

You need to dremel something on the release latch. The latch on the car. The problem is, the latch on the hood is bigger then the stock one. By dremeling you are able to slide the latch (on car) down. Also when you have it off, stick a couple washers behind it, so it sticks out a little.

You do not need hoodpins. Just modify the latch correctly and your golden.

The pins hold the hood on from the rail behind the headlights. This requires drilling through the hood itself, I wouldnt bother unless you have one of those floppy cowls.

If you need pics or any help let me know.

Maybe you'll get lucky and not need to do any modifications. Just take the hood off, relocate the ground, and then bolt the new hood on. Try to close it and see what happens. It'll probly stick up too high, so you are going to have to lower the latch. Improvize.
