No it wasn't a direct fit, but I liked the inner diameter of the intake opening and I liked the long conical shape. I modified the base plate to fit into my stock air filter box. Then, using my trusty Dewalt drill I put about five 3/4 in holes in the air box near where it fits into the fender. I also but three 1 in holes on the bottom of the air box. Result? Poor man's heat shield.

I was thinking of doing the same type of thing to the stock air box - do you have any pictures?

eek

I'm still dreaming of doing 15.5s or 90mph, wichever might come first.
Just got back from the track. Second drag event in my life, temp in upper 80s and a high dew point. Not to mention I did not have any chewing gum to make me look cool.

btw, I got BFG g-Force KDW tires and i was wondering if a little 'burn out' would help at all. I'd like them to last at least a year.
And what's up with the speedometer? I could swear it was pointing at 95 or so, and I only clocked 87. Can't just be the non stock tires?

Stinger... Slip the clutch. That is the trick.
Takes some practice too. Too much and you fry the clutch (well more anymore!) Too little and you can hop like mad (Diff takes a beating!)

I don't think a burnout will help much. You see, when you get in the water box, water gets all in the tread grooves of the tire...when you stage, any excess water left in the tread will flow down to the bottom while you are waiting on the tree. Could actually cause you to spin off the line.

I think that what you should do is skip the water box...just drive around it. Before you stage, dump the clutch and get the tires to spin over a couple of times just to clean off the tread. Then stage and go.

Yep slipping is where its at....but too much and you kill e/ts and too little and you kill e/ts. I've been launching at arount 4k-5k with some decent slip, and when I do it right I get no bog and no wheelspin...just low 60' times. Getting off the line effectively is key in drag racing.

No I don't have any pictures. Its pretty straight forward. Just get a hole saw or a wide drill bit and cut some holes in the box till you think you have enough. Nothing to it really. Just lets in a bit more air. The big thing is keeping as much heat away from the intake as possible...thats the real benefit I think.
