My car has been running so well the past year or two that I didn't look under the hood and notice the insulation cracking off the fan harness until 113,000 miles. Vaguely remembered gettign a letter from Ford, dug it up, and see the coverage was extended to 100,000 miles or 10 years. Let's see, 1995 + 10 = 2005, oops.

So, I'm looking for anybody's experience fixing this problem after the 10/100 extended coverage. Has anybody talked Ford into paying all or part of it outside the warranty period?

Or has anybody done the fix themselves? The FAQ of this site has a link to the necessary parts and instructions (TSB 99M03). I have the 2.0L automatic with NO ABS.

Would like to hear people's experiences to help me decide what to do.

Thanks.

If I remember right, the fan harness can be replaced separately. My sister had it done on her 1995 mystique. Also, check if the fan motors turn freely, if one is stiff, that will draw more current and heat the wires. One of her fans failed later, had seized.
