I dont know too much about car in general. I visit this site more for the car audio, but my 1999 Contour se, Automatic..4 cyc, is having problems.

While in the car: I turn the engine on.... I get a little vibration while in park... feels like my engine is cold and it wanting to die a little bit. Put it in reverse, and I have no problems at all. Once I put it in drive, if i keep my foot on the brake without moving, my car almost hops. It seems my engine is reving too much.. almost like too much choke on it.... It revs high and then stops and feels like the car is going to shut off.

While outside of the car: In park.. You can see my car (in the hood area) move up and down ... not dramatically... but enough to freak me out.... I almost hear a hissing sound outside of the car.. sounds near the bottom of the car. I dont think its the radiator because its not over heating...

So what could it be? A belt? A hose that has come loose.. My fuel injectors? I dont know...

Any suggestions of what could possible be going on... Would help a lot

Thanks
Mark

Check for a vacuum line that has cracked. Maybe on your egr valve. Listen for the hiss maybe it's easy to find.

I tell you what it is...its the IAC valve. You need to remove the valve and clean it with some carb cleaner in the plunger area and around the spring, use a tooth brush and clean it the best you can...then apply a light spray of lubricant like wd40 or something. It usually clears up any idle and surging idle problems. If you never done a throttle body cleaning you could do that as well. All this info can be found by searching IAC and throttle body.
