Hello,

I know there is alot of posts for this code of 1151 but when I was at Advance Auto Parts yesterday the guy tried telling me the sensor was doing its job by telling us it was running lean. He said the sensor was fine and said I didn't need to replace it. He felt there was a fuel injector not operating right or something that would mess up the fuel to air mixture. Thinking about going somewhere else to get this as its the 2nd or 3rd time this code has triggered. Does the sensor need to be replaced? Any insight on this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Dunno. Need more details.

You got an I-4 or V-6?
Have you checked for vac leaks?
How many miles on your '99 SE?
Done any recent maint?

TourDeForce,

I have the V6 and have not done any recent maintenence besides an oil change and tire rotation. My 98 had 85,000 miles on it. How does one check for vac leaks? Thanks.

Open the hood and try to hear for a hissing air sound. It could be as simple as a vacuum hose broken but it could be others too. You might want to read through the TSB below for a full diagnostic of the P1151 and other codes.

Good luck.

For an 1151 (or 1131) sensor replacement is the logical first step, especially if the sensor is old.

Werd. I had 1131 a few weeks ago; replaced the rear sensor and all is well again. When going to the parts store, just ask for an upstream O2 sensor. If they refuse to sell it to you, take your business somewhere else.

Also, 1151 is for the front sensor; you should have no problem changing it out. That rear sensor is a beyotch.

Well the guy was probably trying to be nice, unfortunately
he should be trying to run a business, if someone wants to
buy something at a store, hell if I would try to stop them.

The reason behind his actions are, that O2 sensors are the
most often replaced items on automobiles, and a extremely
high percentage of those replacements are unneeded.
