No it was the gear the starter turns to start the engine that was starting to warp. It happend on our stique and it cost a fortune to fix. It makes the car undriveable 1/4 of the time, and I couldn't live with that.

Well, enjoy the Toyota...
How much does it cost to replace the flywheel? Or is there more involved?

To fix the flywheel, you must drop the front subframe and transmission. When we had it done on our Mystique 3 years ago, it cost 1500 US at our local Ford dealer, and it took 4 days. Plus the starter needed to be replaced because it wore out from spinning and not turning anything. All in all, I was looking at 2500 or more to repair a 6 year old car that had been flooded. It wasn't a hard choice to get rid of it.
