No it was the gear the starter turns to start the engine that was starting to warp. It happend on our stique and it cost a fortune to fix. It makes the car undriveable 1/4 of the time, and I couldn't live with that.

To fix the flywheel, you must drop the front subframe and transmission. When we had it done on our Mystique 3 years ago, it cost 1500 US at our local Ford dealer, and it took 4 days. Plus the starter needed to be replaced because it wore out from spinning and not turning anything. All in all, I was looking at 2500 or more to repair a 6 year old car that had been flooded. It wasn't a hard choice to get rid of it.
