do you have to take off the alternator and the brake booster/master cylinder to get the engine out the top?

I think I am just about ready to pull the engine out, everything I can think of is disconnected, except the motor mounts. There doesnt seem to be much room at all. anyone have any tricks or things I should know?

Buy, or get ahold of a Ford Service CD. It's a must have when removing the engine. (well, it gives step by step instructions)

2 people helps when pulling the motor. One can do it no problem though. Tkae your time raising it out and make sure you aren't sangging any wires hoses etc. Keep an eye on the rear banks wires and hoses.

If i remember correctly, in the ford manual it says to have the cherry picker all hooked up and tightly chained before you remove the motor mount bolts, for fear of....too much weight or something falling...some [censored]. I dont remember. Just thought I'd pass it on.

Ford Service CD drops the subframe from the bottom. I didn't think it was even possible to pull it from the top. There is no space at all.
I dropped mine and came out really easily after everything was out of the way.
I guess it's just a preference.

Huh? My CD said take it out from the top. I just got it out this past Saturday. It was tight but it came out no problem. Like someone said, be careful with the wires by the firewall and its a good idea to have someone help you keep an eye on things while you lift. The only thing I would have done different is remove the front trans mount bracket. The CD may have said to do so but I can't remember. That bracket was getting snagged and scraping up near the top but not really a big deal at all. Just something to keep a look out for.

I swear my Ford CD has you attach it from the top, support the engine, disconnect the mounts, unbolt the subframe, then lower the hoist.
Oh well.
