Anyone here driving southbound on Erin Mills Pkwy in a silver E1? Looked fairly stock but nice.....

Tomorrow will be putting the stock suspension back on... I had planned on putting on the GC coilovers but when they took the first strut off (Koni yellow) they noticed that the strut was "soft". This may help explain why i noticed extra tire rub going over bumps lately. I guess that is also why my car looks so low for the most part. Anyway I searched and found my receipt and I will be contacting Koni for a warranty replacement. That should be as much fun as a root canal. I was surprised by how long I have had the Koni / Eibach set up on the car ....4 Years!?!!
Running at the SVTOA event at Shannonville on the stock suspension will be verrrry different for me. I have only ever run once on a track with that setup.....

Also here is something very strange that I noticed on the car. I was noticing that when I applied the brakes I would only get bite after about a second. This would happen about 70% of the time. So i jacked up the car and started looking around and noticed something. The nut that is attached at the end of the axle (you can see when you remove a wheel...dead centre of the hub / brake disc) had backed out to the point of only being on about two or three threads. When i checked the torque specs for this nut it is 208 lb / ft!!!! How the hell can this nut back out to the point where it is about two threads from coming off completely? Anyway I bought a huge 32 mm socket and torqued it to the specified specs. I will be checking this regularly now. When this nut gets loose it takes a lot more pedal travel before your brakes will bite because the whole wheel / hub assembly will wobble. For those that witnessed my spectacular spin out at Shannonville through the mud will remember that this nut failed after the spin and caused the wheel bearings and axle to fail ending my weekend early.

I guess I need to be even more vigilant with maintenance items now that the car is just under 6 years old. I usually do not keep a car this long.

Wow this must be my longest post ever!!!

Fern....That axle nut is still my suspision about your failure last time at Shannonville. Buy 2 new ones and torgue them down good and hard. I also have a suspicion that my RR koni has been gone for some time but I can't find my recipt and I know I am SOL anyways since I have my perches cut off.

As for the coilovers, contact true choice in the US. They are a Koni repair center and do custom coilover setups. You may luck out and catch a break if you send them all 4 and get them re-valved and fitted with thier coil over setup for a decent price since you are already getting one repaired.

Fern talk to Chris for CTA. I'm pretty sure he mentioned that one of his customers took his Konis and Eibachs off his tour and they are barely used and is selling them cheap.

I talked to Chris and decided not to purchase the Koni's that were for sale. Besides I had just purchased the GCs from Chris. I will wait it out and call Koni on Monday to arrange for shipment back to them. From a quick check of the struts it looks like three out of the four are shot. I hope Koni is not too picky about warranty replacement.
right now the SVT looks like a 4X4. I did a quick measurement and it looks like the drop that I had with my Koni / Eibach set up was around 1.75 - 2 inches!!!!

Damn car rides like a Cadillac now.
I wish I had seen those D2 racing coilovers before buying the GCs. Man those coilovers looks sweet!!

Oh and I guess when it rains it pours.... it looks like I have a bent rear control arm. Just a slight bend . Wonder when the @#$%$# that happened.

just some ranting. I am done now.

Fern I did notice a set of Koni's and GC's in the CEG Classifieds for $700US for the whole set. That could be another soloution for you to have your coilovers for track day.
