One of my co-workers just came in complaining about her radio not working so I took a look. I'm stumped so maybe you guys can offer some advice. Setup is a sony HU, factory speakers, external amp running some subs. Cd player plays fine and AM radio plays fine. However, no sound at all through FM stations, not even static. She said it happened yesterday out of the blue and hasn't come back on. The only conclusion I can come to is that the FM on the HU is toast and she probably needs a new one. I tried resetting the HU but no luck. Any of you guys ever hear of this happening as I've never experienced this before. Thanks for any input.

How did you try to reset the HU? Some do have a reset configuration by holding a certain sequence of bottons while powering on or off. Could also try removing power. Does sound the the tuner is gone.

There's a small reset button that can be pushed in with a pen, pin, etc. I'm not sure if it's the tuner because AM works fine. When the FM is on there's absolutely no sound, not even static when you turn the volume way up. Really strange

I thought about that but wouldn't you still hear static when turning the volume up really high?

not necessarily. if the antenna plug doesn't have enough of a boost to get any signal it is quite possible you won't get static either. it's happened before when I unplugged my antenna

AM is more dependent on antenna then FM. It sounds as if the FM is toast. Sorry

what kind of car is it? some vehicles like when put together in sections alreay have the antena wires in the sections and are then connected. Some of these connections get corroded and loose connection.
