what application should I use the buttons for? I wanted to do the radio functions, but I think that would be too hard, then was thinking to have it do the front windows..... If I was running nos maybe have it for that, but i am not and dont plan to anytime soon..... any one got any creative ideas?

Looks pretty cheesy. Besides, what's so hard about pushing the window buttons? It's more work to flip the "lid" on top of the shift knob just to roll down some windows. I wouldn't even classify that as "pimp factor."

Its kinda cheesy I agree, I like the feel of the shift knob as well so I may just install with out the buttons, the knob is heavier and taller than my existing one.

I don't know about you, but I never liked where the power lock button is. I have to contort backwards or use the other hand to press it. I say have it as an option. Maybe control some strobes? LEDs? Interior Lights, so you don't need to find it on the roof...

ok so i installed just the shift knob yesterday, drove it home and drove it to work this morning. I dont think i like it. The base is metal but the top where the buttons go is plastic, and it rattles. I may just have to tighten the screw but havent had a chance yet. Plus the thing is like twice as high as my last shift knob. I am having problems getting it set to where the reverse lockout will engage, I test fit, screw down the nuts, and then try and it wont go.

As far as applications, I was really thinking to use it to operate the remote to the gate. I just have to figure out how to make it work.

The gate remote runs off of a 9 volt, the leads from each button provide 12 volts from the car..... Again just have to figure out the best way to do it. Any ideas.

I may just say f it and put my old one back on. I dont really like the way it feels anyway.

I had a Stanley garage/gate/whatever transmitter that wired to any 12V source. It was all-weather & I had mine wired to my highbeams & hidden behind the upper grill. Pulled up the driveway & flashed my highs & garage door opened or closed. beats having an opener (A/K/A housekey) on your sunvisor looking for a theif & buying batteries all the time. Cool factor was about a 8.

ended up doing the DRL mod & removed the opener. Later replaced the gdoor opener with a Genie intellicode & completely rendered this opener obsolete.

might look on ebay or anywhere Stanley openers are sold for one. the kit had the transmitter that you set dip switches on that matched the dip switches on your existing opener. works with other brands as my old opener was a crapsman.

FWIW.

the original & the best is here:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-PRaqg85BiGb/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?I=505RB103

LOTS of valuable uses... the flip up plastic cover is cheesy.. I saw those at Autozone & just giggled/shook my head.

the varad RacerBoy shift knob is all machined aluminum. the buttons are recessed. All 4 buttons can be configured as latching, momentaty, push/release.. or any combo... if that last statemnt is French or Alien language to you.. then installing the knob & wiring it is beyond your scope.

In street rods & custom cars, we have used them for windows, A/C, Stereo Wireless remotes, neon lights, Nitrous Systems, wiper controls, sunroofs... anything imaginable that is 12v powered... a few relays.. anything is possible.

One car, we have the set of 4 buttons working 16 different fucntions based on the position of the iginition key, the Nitrous arm switch, & the stereo mode setting... One layer is Nitrous/Stage/Line Lock. Layer 2 is windows/sunroof. Layer 3 is alarm functions (key off), & layer 4 is default (stereo remote functions volume, track, source)

So in our experience that the GOOD knob (Varad) is very valuable.

just our .02...
