Need some advice...
I just had a CEL come on recently. I scanned the code and P0174 came up. System too Lean (bank 1). I checked the intake system for leaks etc, and all looks well. Throttle body is clean, MAF is clean. Would the next step be to replace the front upstream 02? Just wanted some advice before placing the order on the sensor. Car has 59,000 miles.
Thanks!

P174 is System too lean (Bank 2). There is a TSB 01-9-7 which outlines the following for P0174.

I have a hardcopy printed. Don't know if the link still works.

http://www.v8sho.com/SHO/TSB0197HO2SServiceTips.htm

If the link doesn't work, try http://www.v8sho.com/SHO
and then scoll down for the TSB

Good luck

just curious, if my EGR valve were sticking, would I not get an EGR low flow code before the P0174?

from what I gather, the P0174 code is not flagging 02 sensor failure but failure of a component that causes the mixture to go lean, ie vacume leak, egr etc.

thanks

If the EGR was sticking open the engine would run real bad at idle. With that many miles it time to think about replacing the O2 sensors. There is a test procedure you can run it through that on the web (can't find at present) which requires removing the sensor, heating it with a torch and scoping it. If the sensor is working OK, the problem may still be lean condition caused by bad gaskets in the intakes, etc. You can find a ton of posts on this bug. I had one caused by a torn PCV hose on the cam cover.

O2 sensor is gone, replace it. had a P0171 on my mothers car and replacing the noted sensor for that code cleared it up

if there was a intake leak or something like that both banks would be lean

Unless it's a leak around the injector(s)
