Ok. I feel dumb for asking this but where is the fuel pump located on a 1998 Contour. I don't know much yet about the Contour and the fuel pump may have gone out as my son was driving it home this evening. I'm hoping it's not in the fuel tank.
Thanks

What are the symptoms, the 98's do not have problematic fuel pumps. The fuel filter is located below the right rear door.

Well as my son was driving home the car just quit. When starting, the engine turns over but dosen't seem to be getting any gas. I really don't have a clue as to what it might be but thought I would start with the fuel pump.

Posting your son's symptoms will aid in making sure you are repairing/replacing the correct part.
If you have a CEL (check engine light), get the code read for free at Autozone, and give us the code (not the description they give you.. the actual code: Pxxxx, where X = 0-9)

Tell us the mileage, make, model, year, and trim of your vehicle, as well.

Also, do you have a Zetec I4 or a Duratec V6?

I know that it's a v6. I know very little about the car as I have not had it very long. My mother gave it to us when she moved back here to Michigan. She refuses to drive here not that I blame her. I will get more info in the morning. Thanks for all your responces. I feel at home already.

Ok, here is the info:

1998 Contour GL
110,119 miles
16V Zetec VCT

I thought it was a 6 cylinder but it is a 4. I'm just wondering if the plugs could have fouled out. I had this happen on a 1991 Cougar and the car wouldn't start. Could this be the problem? I checked the fuses and they are all ok. Mom said she didn't know if the plugs have been changed or not.

I'm not a expert like the big dogs on the website. But here is my two cents. My newphew is a ASE certified mechanic at the Ford garage. He told me some time ago if a car won't start then the two places to start are. Is the engine getting fuel. Is the engine getting spark. If its not getting fuel its the fuel filter or the fuel pump. If its not getting spark we'll thats a completely different ballgame. Meaning that where his trouble shooting expertise would have to come in. I seen him pull out small like jumper wires to bypass stuff to locate a problem. I WAS BLOWN AWAY WHEN I SEEN THAT.
