Something is wrong with the trans itself when the O/D light is flashing on and off.

Try getting the codes scanned, and search for your symptom in this site, all post dates, troubleshooting. I remember reading about that problem, it has happened to others here. Does it shift abruptly?

flashing OD light is usually something internal, and major, usuall the torque converter slipping.
it WILL generate a code, but it is not stored as typical CEL codes are. the code is gone after the condition is gone, and the key is turned off.
Take your car to a REPUTABLE transaxle shop, and have them use a realtime scanner while driving with those conditions happening, to capture the code. This is usually done for free, as part of their appraisal of the problem.

I remember my friendly dealership offered to install a 'black box' when I was suffering ferocious bucking when downshifting into 3rd at high speed (literally like one of those 'ride the bucking bull machines'!). Apparently it could either be triggered to capture full data when the CEL comes on, or with a button press. I presume this is the same thing, and it was offered to me either with diagnostics if it was frequent, or for a small fee and I could drive with it for a week, to capture data when it happened.

I was searching some old posts and they where taking about the tss switch. Do you think I should try this first and a fluid change before I take it to a shop? Also i wraped duct tape around the od button depressing it at all time and this works no od light at all but now that it is getting hot out side the tape isnt holding like it did in the colder months. Since holding the button in fixed the problem that why I thought it was faulty button so I disconected the switch drove it for like 15 min...speeds up to 100 mph and no od light but when I hit a bump in the road it came on and stayed on and the car switched to 3erd gear. I pulled over shut the car off and started it again and the light was off. havent drove the car since to see if it will do it again. Do you think changing the tss will help me since they revised it. thanks for all your help.

If you go to "Search, Transaxle, and type in "intermittent", 6 months, there are a few good threads similar to yours. A recent one was in June relating to TSS.
