I was going over insurance companies and they asked if I had anti-lock brakes. Now I have never felt the shudder nor seen the sticker, but how can I be for sure if I do or do not have it? Isn't there a code on the door sticker that can tell me? It seems as if only the 4-wheel disc can ever have it, and well...that makes it easy. Also, Geico quoted me $650 for six months full coverage. How does that sound for a 20 year old male with no wrecks?

Get your car up to a reasonable speed on a straightaway and hit the brakes full force. If you come to a stop very quickly, you have ABS. If you skid (i.e. the wheels lock up), you have conventional brakes.

Better yet is to check if the ABS fuse exists in the panel.
FWIW, my SE doesn't have it. The 2000 SE's were the most stripped of the Contours for features, so you "probably" don't have it.
As for insurance, I'm paying about that much with minimal coverage only (not even liability ... gonna change that soon!) with Commerce via AAA. 20 years old here too.

I thought there was a little ABS light that lit up when you start the car? Or am I thinking of one of the other cars my parents had?

I was thinking that too, but can't be sure (since my car doesn't have ABS, and I'm too lazy to go out and look in the user manual) ... I know my friend's Honda Accord has a light, since his ABS is broken and it's lit all the time
Checking the fuse panel is a sure thing, though ...

Oh yeah...
SVT's have that - though ABS is standard on them - and I'm not sure about the SE

No you're right moxnix, the ABS light should come on briefly when the car is started.

ding ding ding we have a winner
on the insurance note I beleive I will pay about $2200 for both my cars
what you need to check into is what and how your insurance covers stuff, do they use OEM parts or reproductions? do they cover anything left in the car? will they cover the cost of things you add to the car, ie wheels, radio, etc? what are you covered for, 100K, 500K, etc? what is your deductable? check their track record, do they hold out on paying?

Hm, I have an ABS light in my dash, but it never lights up, not even on startup, so I'm thinking I don't have it. Doesn't explain why I have the light in my dash though.
