I had a bad noise coming from the front end, so I checked the bearings and the pass side was defenetly bad. I finally got the knuckle off (after struggling with the bottom ball joint). After I got everything out of the way, the inner CV boot is also leaking grease, so I wanted to pull the CV and replace it. Right now I can't get the CV shaft to slide out of the trans (carrier bearing extension). I can't see how I can get a pickle fork in there from underneath, and can't pull it straight out. Any tips?

I always take a long flat punch and use it with a hammer to tap on the inner CV housing to separate the shaft from the center section and carrier bearing. I think it requires you drop the y-pipe to really get good access, but other than that it's easy.

My best friend... Slide hammer w/ CV attachment. About $70. Slide it up between the shaft and tranny. Slide the handle up and give her a couple good yanks.

I usually just use a fat chisel and wedge it in between the shaft and trans housing. Give her a few taps to pop the shaft out. Works great for me. Just be careful not to nick the shaft seals. If they look crusty at all, it would be a great time to change them.

I got mine with a pick a fork! Maybe have to take the y pipe off. Is it THAT hard...saves time in the end.
