I mean, do you like doing your work?

Thread Rules:

1. Tell us what your job duties are, and why you like or dislike them. In other words, tell us whether you like the actual tasks you perform at work (selling big screen TVs, booking flights for travellers, writing appellate briefs, installing garage doors, or whatever).

2. Don't tell us about the particular individual quirks of your workplace, such as whether your boss has a really friendly personality, or whether you have an office window that has a view of the bay. Those may affect your satisfation with your job, but they are separate from whether you get personal satisfaction from your work.

3. Don't tell us that you like your job because it pays your bills, or because it's only five minutes away from your house, or because it has a great pension plan, or anything like that. Those are separate issues from whether you like your actual job duties.

See what I'm getting at? I'm asking whether like doing your work, not whether you like your job.

i can honestly say i LOVE my job duties. I admit though, that i wish I were better at them (still attending college), but it is something i am truly satisfied doing. I design layouts and graphics for websites and corporate logo's. it is something i have always wanted to do, and let's me express my creative side.

I love my field of work. I enjoy working on the machines I work on because they are so complicated. Yes I like my field of work. I hate the company

I gotta go with no on this one. Two jobs I would like to do are Brewmaster or Dolphin Trainer. Unfortuantely they don't pay nearly as well so I'm stuck being OK with my career/job.

Unfortuantely,
I'm a manager at a small public accounting firm.
I ensure my team of staff substantively audits the trial balance of small venure backed technology clients. I review my staffs work, coordinate timing with the clients, interview the CFO and other key individuals, prepare and review financial statements and discus all key aspects with the partner. I also do billing/collections, teach training, recruit staff, and work on proposal for new clients.

It could definitely be worse!

I'd have to say I hate my job. I've had it for 15 years, doing the same thing all that time. Its doing government environmental regulatory work, issuing permits, taking enforcement actions, etc. No matter what the situation, somebody in the regulated community is going to be unhappy hearing from me. Almost 100% of what I do involves word processing work on the computer. Its a far cry from my college degree and I get frustrated I'm not using any of my mechanical engineering skills. Why did I take it? Family obligations made it virtually impossible to relocate after my former employer downsized, and good paying engineering jobs are scarce locally. I console myself with the fact that I'll be eligible for retirement in 18 months!

Blah! I hate my job and it is NOT satisfying. Thus the reason for me looking else where. Has little to nothing to do with my degree and its boring as hell! I work for one of the largest companies in the world doing Consumer Finance and its about as fun as going to the dentist! I should have taken the hint when I get a "C" in Corporate Finance in College!

Job: Prepping documents to be put in a sheet-fed scanner. (Mostly taking staples out and cutting manila folders; also involves cutting things that are bigger than 8.5x11, taping things to 8.5x11 paper that are smaller than postcard-size, ensuring no metal tabs exist, things like that.) $9/hr, 40 hrs/week, started late May, ending mid August (start of school).

It's okay. The work itself is boring, of course. However, I don't have to deal with customers like in my previous retail jobs, low-stress, and it's straightforward enough that I can brain-sleep while working.

(warning: "job" likes/dislikes ahead:)
The job is 45 minutes away but close to my dad's workplace so we can carpool if need be. It's 9-5 MTWRF so I get my weekends, and hours are very flexible. I can listen to my iPod or chat with fellow staple-pullers, and I might soon get the privilege to actually scan the documents, or move up to the air-conditioned front room where they do data entry/confirmation .. haha. It gets warm in the warehouse where I'm working - we average 87 degrees - but there are windows so I can see the outside (although they don't open). I can blast "Mambo #8" from Office Space when I'm stuck in traffic jams, too

I think if I was there more than a few months, or if this was my full-time job forevermore, I'd go nuts .. but as it is it's all good.

I work for a unionized grocery store as a General merchandise clerk.

I dont 'like' my work, because a lobotomized monkey could do most of my job (check barcode digits, and match them with the correct tags on the shelf, then put that item on the shelf). Its kind of a waste of my brain, as I feel I could deffinatley be doing something that would take advantage of my brain.

Occasionally I get to build patio sets, or [censored] like that, in which case I dont mind as I like working with my hands and building.

One draw back is that me and a fellow college student are the only 'able-bodied' people in my whole freaking dept., so heavy lifting is our forte'.

off the orgional request topic,
This job however does meet my current requirements for emplyoment:
Good pay (12.10/ hr, 30-40 hours a week, often with time and a half overtime)
flexible hours (need to work when i can because of college)
Managers and I get along most of the time.

It should suit me till i get out of college

I can say that I love every single part of my jobs. My duties include:

(Primary Income)-

Programming a complex ASP.Net web application for a major mortgage company. The calculations are highly complex, and I get to truely test my programming abilities on a daily basis.

(Secondary Income)-

Programming a SDK for other developers, allowing them to use 3D, Network, and Media resources to program business apps, games, whatever. I get to play with the latest and greatest 3D hardware daily, and all of my systems have to be "the best" so I can test the newest 3D techniques. I also get to play with multiple huge network configurations, while writing networking code that can support 20k players at a time. Challenging, yet enjoyable on a daily basis. (How often can you fix one bug and have 5000+ customers praise you for it.)

(Tertiary Income)-

Design new parts for multiple different race platforms. I get to drive some hot cars, and play in the garage for weeks at a time. Its also very satisfying to hand over a CAD model of a part, and the next day pick up a fully machined, final product.

Am I overworked? You betcha. Am I stressed out? Sure enuff. Would I change a thing? No way.
