I posted this on the www.crownvic.net site, but I thought it might be of interest here as well. Here's the post: http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB23&Number=930832&page=1&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1_____________________________________________________ I've read the posts on here about Sea Foam, and also talked to my local O'Reilly manager about the product, so I decided to give it a try. Last night, I dribbled about 1/3 can of Sea Foam into a vacuum line on my 2000 Taurus (about 80K miles), let it set about 15 minutes, and cranked it up. There was a little puff of white smoke, maybe for 1 or 2 seconds, and that was it. Next, I did the same thing to my 94 Crown Vic (about 125k miles) and let it set for about 15 minutes. The CV uses some oil, about one quart every 1500 miles (valve seals maybe?). When I cranked up the CV, it smoked fairly heavily for a minute or two. I then drove down the road, and the white smoke blew out for about half a mile. I came back, repeated the Sea Foam treatment, and got almost as much smoke the second time as I had the first time. I changed the oil in the CV and the Taurus, and then gave the Sea Foam treatment to my Mercury Mystique. The Mystique has about 145k miles, but uses no oil. After dribbling in the Sea Foam through a vacuum line, I let the car set about 30 minutes, and cranked it up. It smoked so badly I could not see to drive for about 1-2 minutes. When the wind shifted so I could see, I drove down the road, with a huge plume of smoke pouring out for about two miles. There's probably not a mosquito left in southern Oklahoma after the fogging that I put out. Now, the question is whether or not all of that smoking actually helped my cars, or whether I just had fun doing it. Tonight, I'm going to "smoke" my Chevy Silverado, which has about 190K. That should be fun. I'll probably repeat the treatments on each car the next time I'm ready to change the oil.

Only you can answer that question! Do the vehicles run better after the Seafoam treatment? Idle smoother? Accelerate better?
I noticed a difference in my 97 Nissan hardbody truck and 95 Contour after using the Seafoam. The Contour would stumble a little bit before reaching 3000 rpms while accelerating. After the Seafoam, it has crisper throttle response from idle through redline. Great stuff!

Yea it just cleans the oil residue off of the intake manifolds and helps keep them clean.

I dumped half a can into the manifold a while back. Seemed to make the car run a little smoother. I know my intake manifold was due for a cleaning. All in all, it probably works about the same as Berrymans.

You really should have done this while the cars were running. Practically eliminates the plume of smoke all at once (you will get a little at a time with the engine running) & the solvent gets dissipated in the intake air stream to coat things better - not just the low spots. Let it cool & sit while you do the oil chnage, then you take it for the drive.
My V-6 Contour I got used & did the first Berryman cleaning at about 70,000 miles - made an immediate improvement.
My V-6 Mystique I got used with 90,000 miles on the clock. Did the cleaning two weekends ago because it was sluggish & didn't pull very well up top. Now it pulls just fine. I intend to open up the UIM/LIM to perform a detailed rebuild in the near future & will do a before/after thingy with a Berryman cleaning. That should address the benefit controversy once & for all.

Sorry, my write-up wasn't clear. I did add the Sea Foam while the cars were running, and then shut them off immediately. Actually, on two of the cars, the engine lugged for a couple of minutes and then died, as I was adding the sea foam to the vacuum line. After the cars died, I let them sit for awhile before starting them up again. The instructions say to let it set for 5 minutes, but I left it longer than that.
I went ahead and ran a treatment through my Chevy truck, and also ran a third treatment through the Crown Victoria. So far, I really can't tell much difference in the way the cars run, but then they were running well even before the treatment. I am hoping that my oil consumption in the Crown Vic will decrease......if so, that alone will justify the time and expense of the treatment.
My plans are to "smoke" the cars again just before their next oil change. I figure as long as I am getting smoke out of the engine, I am probably burning out some of the gunk, so as long as there is gunk in there, I might as well keep trying to get it out.

Then you did it right & your engines will be happier for it. I suggest you check out the Lucas products in your local parts store for the Crown Vic. There should be some sort of engine re-vitalizing additive that may help with the oil consumption. I've tried a few of their products & been pleased with the results after a few drive cycles.

yes the lucas products actually do work , but i belive if u do have a problem with ur car it needs to be checked on and workedout rather than covered by an additve thats just my 2 cents lol
