Hello. i searched and didnt come up with anything new. these vents in the back of my trunk i took out about 3 months ago and covered it up with some foam spray stuff and it didnt work. so i took out the foam and put dynamat (since its covered in it anyways,) on it and then sealed it with some foam. AND IT STILL LEAKS WHEN IT RAINS!! mainly because the tires spalsh up the water and into the vents. and i did remove the plastic vents totally becuase my system in my trunk raddled the hell out of the rubber vents. and it was annoying. what i was thinking of doing is getting a metal sheet and talking off the bumber and cover it up with the sheet of metel and welding it to the trunk on both sides right and left and on the inside and outside. what do you all think of this?? pros and cons that i may have overlooked??
any other way to do this and make it not leak ??
thanks..

Is dynamat, or even the foam for that matter, supposed to be waterproof?

Are you sure it's not the gasket around the taillights that's leaking? Mine was and I fixed it with some windshield gasket/seal stuff.

I was under the impression that removing those vents and plugging them up is a big "no no"?!

Yeah, from what I heard it makes it hard to close your trunk... since those vents let some of hte pressure out when you close it. I'd imagine it would be hard to slam the trunk...

i would bet it's your tail lights leaking the water, mine do it too. As for sealing up the vents, if you turn your air on high you might notice a wistleing out the door seals because the incoming air has no place to go. My wifes Cavalier wistles like crazy when you turn the air on

Also check under spoiler if you have one. If the trunk has been opened by it then the bolts may have become exposed to air and corroded ... letting water in. Happpened to me.

The vents come loose very easily and leak around the gasket. Removing them IS a bad idea. Take them out and clean any dirt from around the gasket. When you put them back in, shove a tennis ball between them and the bumper cover. This will hold them in place(and actually cure the 'sagging' in the sides of the bumper cover). Its ghetto, but it does the job.

The first Mystique that I ever had [years ago] had the same problem. Some silicone took care of it.

not. The back seat isn't air tight, there's lots of other places for the air to escape into the cabin and out of the car.
Have you tried to figure out why these vents are leaking??
Sounds liek you've got a problem somewhere else...removing the vents is not the answer.
