Can somebody give me a rough esimate at how much tune-ups should cost for 98 SE MTX?

I got a price today from local shop (all prices in Canadian dollars), ....to change spark plugs, new wires, clean throtle body, new air filter, and there was one more thing i cant remember....

parts: $225.... labour: $175....total: $400

sounded a bit pricey so i held off, any help on pricing, or what other things should be included in tune-up would be appreciated.

Thanks.

$400 for that??? jeeeeeez...

Here's the breakdown:
(Not really sure how it's "Easy" for Stazi, but anyways...
1. Plugs-Autolite/Motorcraft whatever you fancy= $4 a popx6=$24(double plats)
2. Wires-Motorcraft-Anywhere from $65-85 However the Ford Racing wires ae cheaper- I think $50 or so, but that's an iffy.
3. Tb clenaing-carb cleaner-$2-3
4. New air filter-Motorcraft-I think they're like $10-12

So you're looking at a bit over $100. You can definitely do the filter, plugs, and tb cleaning yourself. Wires will require the removal of the UIM, if you're up for it. Ask one of the guys in you're area, I'm sure the wouldn't mind helping you out.

For that price you could get the k&n filter and intake pipe w/maf adapter, magnacore (sp?) wires, autolites, new silverstars hi's in lo's, and new fogs and still be under the $400 tag, install is basic on everything i mentioned.

I would do everything yourself like the others said. It may take you a good part of an afternoon, but it will save you a few hundred dollars that can be used for future maintenance etc. At the very least buy the parts yourself and, do the air filter (super easy), clean the intake (very easy), change the pvc (very easy), and maybe the fuel filter (easy-depending on the last change), spark plug wires (very easy) and three front plugs are easy...the firewall side plugs are a little tougher but not impossible. If you don;t have the patience for them, just get a shop who knows what they are doing to do them for you.
