Did a search, but couldn't find details on removing MAF. I went to take it off the other day to clean. Noticed 1 screw and another with a coating on it. do you need to unscrew both to get the MAF off the car?, and if so is it just a matter of scraping the black plastic off to get at the 2nd screw (on the firewall side of MAF).
thanks!

They put sealer on it so the average person can't remove the sensor. Just grab it with a pair of vice grips and turn it a little at a time. Some hardware stores sell the security torx screw and driver. Usually you have to go to a fastener company for them. Once you get it out be very careful with it, the wires are fragile.

Ok...That's what I thought it was . I have a security torx bit set so I'm good to remove them. Thanks!

No need to remove if you are just going to clean the hot wires.

those being the wires you see within the tube that the MAF is attached to?? If I can see whether the wires are dirty or not without removing, all the better.

look inside the MAF from the air filter end... you can see them inside a metal vane within the MAF..
Although, it takes VERY little hunk to throw it off, and may be too little to see.

1.Yes.
2.It's recommended that you use aerosal electrical contact cleaner.

Thanks for the advice. I had a look at it, it looks to be clean as new still so I will leave it alone for now. I cleaned all other electrical contacts with automotive electrical contact cleaner.

You can spray it through the tube, but I found I can get more dirt off of it be removing it. Reset the computer after doing this so it can re-adapt.
