Helping a neighbor with his A/C on his Zetec Tour. I've never had to work on a Zetec before, so thats what brings me here.

When he is driving on a level grade the A/C works fine, but when he hits any uphill, the A/C cuts out/ stops working. We found a vaccum line that appears to be coming off of the trans (auto) and the other end has come apart from its home. We can't find a home for it and it feels like it is sucking. It's a flexible rubber hose, with a right angle end that is loose.

The 2 may be related, or may be totally separate, I am guessing. I may be able to get a pic if it will help.

Thanks!

I believe there is a hose that comes off of the transmission that is a vent hose. It doesn't really go anywhere. The loose end of it should be somewhere near the battery, if I remember correctly.

Is your friend pressing the gas pedal to the floor when he is going uphill? If so, that would explain the ac cutting out. When the gas pedal is at "Wide Open Throttle", the throttle position sensor is designed to stop the ac to give a little more power to the engine. That may be what is happening.

Whatever you do do not plug that hose that comes from the atx. It is the vent line.
