It's not that bad, you just submerge your hand down to about 3/4" from your elbow...Pull the sucker out and be sure to note where to put it back. Be sure to keep the car in park and on when checking the level, otherwise you won't get an accurate reading. However, make sure the engine isn't too hot if you're concerned, either way you'll be fine. If you're really concerned wear an old full-sleve shirt that you wouldn't mind getting some dirt on.

Oh sorry, I didn't read about the shower...Ummm did you disconnect a coolant line? Was it green fluid? Yeah, that'd be pretty damn hot!
