am thinking of getting a jag XJR 4.0 V8 (round about year 1998-1999)

used to have a very old jag which was frought with probs (rusting, mechanical, electrical etc) but now fords have jaguar these probs seem to have gone.

is there any common faults on these cars, i notice a couple on ebay have had new engines at 90k miles. all for sale in my budget have well over 100k miles, will that be a prob?

are the elecs fairly reliable?

i've seen some power upgrades i am interested in...

i notice the head unit stereo is a funny shape, i want to put a motorised din-size flip-out screen head unit, is there a fascia adaptor available?

and does anyone know the size of the standard door speakers

cheers

I seem to recall reading that the XJR is a good way to get an Aston Martin DB7 but in a sedan body on the cheap.

the V8 XJR and the AM have basically nothing in common. The AM was based on a heavily modified XJS platform that in the end was basically not an XJS platform.

To the original poster: as in any new model series the 1st few years are going to be a pain in the butt, but man - the XJR is such a pimp car, fast and GOOD looking I dont think it could stop me if I had the money!! XJR is one of my dream cars! (think Arden . . .)

looks like i'll get a 6 cylinder if i do get one, the V8 has known engine probs and is more money and harder to self-maintain. the 6 pot is still pretty powerful.

anyone know the power limits of the engine's internals, am just thinking about increasing boost, bigger intercooler, chip etc. its 322bhp @ flywheel as standard.

oh, and is there any good jag forums in USA, i've seen jag-lovers.org but they seem to be pretty purist and the forum layout is from the dark ages
