I got my transmission rebuilt recently (Contour SE 1998 automatic - 90,600 miles), after a drum craked...
It worked fine for a couple of week, and now I'm having a new problem.

When the engine is cold, everything work fine. As well, I can drive for hours on the highway at 60-70 mph, and there is no problem : A/C, transmission and engine work fine !

But after driving a couple of miles in the hot weather, if I drive to a slower speed (i.e. in town), the transmission acts weird. It seems to shift to the 3rd or 4th even at 20mph, and requires a delay to downshift when I push the accelerator. The car seems to lack of power. In the same time, the A/C stops cooling.
If I turn the A/C off for a short time, and turn it on later, then it works properly again.
Or if I go back to a high speed, then both the A/C and the transmission work fine again.

I don't know if it's a transmission issue, or an A/C issue or something else...???

Does anyone have an idea ?

Thanks in advance

Vincent

really weird... i am having the same issue, and my tranny was replaced not to long ago as well... i've only noticed the A\C not cooling, cause its been hot out... but identical symptoms as well as a delay when trying to reverse (a\c off).

Did they discharge/recharge the AC? I wonder if the system is overfilled? Going to higher speeds lowers the pressures because there is more air for the condensor unit.

As for the Tranny. I wonder if the TPS is flaking out or disconnected. If the speedo and tach is working the EEC knows how fast the car is going and RPMs. Mine wouldn't go into overdrive unless it's over 30mph. It will drop a gear if the throttle is pressed a little. The TPS will also tell it you want more power and the EEC will decide to downshift from other data.

Nothing has been done one th A/C...
It goes off only when the transmission probleme arises, as if the lack of power was inducing the A/C problem...

What is the TPS and where it is located ?

If it were a regulation problem, it would occur all the time. But it happens only after a driving few miles, when the engine is warm...
