Just thinking about some ideas for reflectors on the Contour and decided to fool around in Photoshop. My basic thought was, what if I tried to change the apparent shape of the tail lights by selectively painting parts of the reflector? Anyways, here they are:

Silver 1

Silver 2

Silver 3

Black 1

Black 1a (w/painted chrome strip)

Black 2

Black 3

This next is an interesting one. To pull this effect off, I think you'd have to fill and paint part of the the gap between the reflector and the lower part of the trunk (near the license plate area), while sanding or cutting a groove in the reflector itself to simulate a seam (i.e. make it look like the outer part of the reflector is a separate piece). Don't even know if it's possible.

Black 3a (w/painted chrome strip)

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the fruits of my idleness.

I like Silver 1. I need to learn how to do stuff like that in photoshop, it would be fun to do a bunch of "what if" with my car!

I like silver one also, the only problem I can see is what you brought up with the last black ones.

You would really need a Seam in the reflector. A hard paint line might look odd.

I like the first one. I've had that same idea as well to do that with my reflector, but I'm probably just gonna tint my reflector and lights a little. At least you're not gonna paint the whole reflector.
That photoshop of the tail lights reminds me of the Honda Accord tail lights.

I've never been a fan of the whole reflector being painted but this looks good.

Very interesting idea. Definitely do it in body color.

I didn't love any of them, though. What about something a little more rounded, kind of like the outside taillight, maybe mirroring that curve. The Contour is kind of a curvy car... See photo for a QUICK & DIRTY mockup ! Reminds me of a Pre '98, so probably not what you were looking for.
Just an idea!

Post and let us know what you decide, and show a photo. Interesting idea !

how about a pre98 trunk lid with lid spoiler? that seems to be the idea of the look, more so if the crome strip gets painted also, but you would loose the shape of the current refector with the earlier trunk lid
