I put in a gauge cluster w/ tach, to replace my non tach gauge. I hooked up a wire to the ECU pin 53, or something like that; the white wire w/ the black stripe in the 3rd row. I used one of those blue snap connectors, and connected it with a length of 16 gauge wire into the instrument cluster. I just pushed it through so the wire was sticking out, since there is no pins for it, where pin 8 is. I hooked everything back into place, and the tach won't work. I have no more ideas, I tried for hours.

The plug at the back of the cluster has a removable back so you can see the wires & guts in the connector. You need to figure out a way to secure the wire in there.
I suggest finding a Contique in the local bone yard, any year/configuration will do, and pull out one of the wire/connector 'pins' and just snip off a length of the wire behind the 'pin' (for lack of a better word) and splice into that.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Too bad you aren't closer, I'd help you with that. Seems to me I owe you some pix of the cluster...

Lol, I know it is hooked up okay and everything. I just think the contacts aren't what they should be. I was a bit concerned about using 16 gauge copper wiring, that wouldn't mess w/ the signal at all would it?

Cool, ok. So does anyone have a pin they can get me? I'm getting pretty sick of looking at a dead tach.

I wrote a how-to on this a long time ago, and if I remember right, I mislabeled the pin number. I think it's pin 48 on the ECU connector. It is black/white. Hope this helps...

I thought it was 53 or something. I know I got the right pin there, and the right pin in the back of the cluster (8), but I still think the connection in the cluster is the problem w/o the stock pin.
