I went to put up my drivers window today and about halfway heard a "pop", then it continued to go up crooked: I can grab the window, and push it back so its straight again, its pivoting on something now. After I push it back into position it looks like this: When it rolls down, it goes down fine and straight. When I roll it back up, I have to guide it manually so it goes straight. Before I rip my door apart just to find out what part this is, then have to rip it apart again in a week when I get the part, I thought I'd ask and see if it was obvious to anyone what part is to blame. What do you think?

Its hard to say what it could be, but its likely something with the track. Either the roller has come off the track and something plastic has broke and caused it, or the cable is off the guide...again something broke. Think the only way to find out is remove the door panel and look...anything else is going to be a guess, and you dont want to be buying parts that have to be ordered without knowing for sure. The door panel is not that bad to remove...pop it off and see what you need.

well it looks like when you order a window regulater it comes as a unit, so its either that part/unit, or the glass broke where it mounts to the regulator (I'm hoping the latter is very unlikely). I'm going to call Bill J though, because I"m a little confused looking at these parts. On fordpartsonline there is a "Window Regulator" listed at only $65, under the Body Hardware>Door>Front Door>Regulator category. But then over in the Electrical>Body Electrical>Front Door>Window Regualtor category it lists for $143. I think I'm goign to go the junkyard route anyway, they have some off 2000 models with motor and regulator for like $75

Most of the time it's the rubber trim that attaches to the sheet metal that is out of place. It guides the window into the tracks after it leaves the down position. It pushes the window in. If it's loose, the window will go up crooked and stop part way up. Remove the trim, clean up the groove it sets in and see if it will stay still. If not, stick some super glue gel in the slot and try again. Make sure the rubber is clean.

the $65.00 regulator is for crank windows, the $143.00 one is for power windows

Ran a search and found this topic. My window did the same thing on the way to work this morning. Just wondering if the cause or a solution to the problem was ever discovered.

Well, I wasn't going to say anything, but I found out this is covered in the FAQ I just received my "new" regulator today and probably be tearing apart the door to fix tomorrow evening. I'll take some pics and keep you updated. My haynes manual has been invaluable when digging this deep into the door.

Be sure to write down steps involved, tools used, sizes used, and approx time.. Take MANY MANY pictures. I will write you up a how to, and post it up for you (host your pictures for you, getcha some credit, and help others all at once.) if you want.

The window is held on by two plastic lock-nut type things (technical term eh?). Same thing happened to my passenger window, it came off track and I popped it back. I just never opened the window again, but it would start rattling on the highway.
Anyway, one of those plastic retainers probably popped off. It should still be inside your door. Just take the door panel off and look for it and secure it back on. It's pretty hard to do as you have to reach through the limited cutouts in the door and basically do it blind. Adjust the window up/down until you have the best access. Thin socket and pliers should be enough IIRC. Might be a good idea to replace that actual plastic piece, because my window is still a bit creaky but it's at least held in place now.
