Ive heard that it is bad to swich from conventional motor oil to synthetic, so its a good thing i did mine a long time ago. I was just wondering if there comes a point where the same would hold true for ATF. I have about 245,000k on my 99 V6 SE, with the original engine and tranny, the engines been on Mobile 1 for close to 200k.
I've heard that having a syn ATF will actually help reduce the temp of the tranny by as much as 20 C, and since heat is a killer of trannys i figured its worth the extra money, if its not too late that is.
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks
Mike
PS
I tried searching for this, i swear, but came up empty.

MTX, ATX, Which one do you have? Either way all the info. you need can be found with a search. I read something the other day that there is no problem doing the well discussed 4 quart drain and fill method (ATX) when switching to a synthetic ATF, if that is the case for you. If you have an MTX, there are tons of discussions/recommendations by some of the most knowledgable on the site. Do some reading as the fluid recommendations vary depending on the health of the MTX.

Mine has never been fully flushed, and I'm worried about flushing it from the stickies I read. The car only has 53k miles on it, auto transmission. If it's never been flushed before, I read that deposits clogging cracks and such are cleaned away..and eventually killing the transmission due to leaks/overheating etc.

So along with the original poster, I am concerned about doing this. Can anyone tell me for sure if I should change it or leave it? Of course otherwise I would have changed it a thousand miles ago, but I've waited.

If your 53k miles was the first you ever changed the fluid, then I would be worried a bit. If you have changed the fluid previously, I would do the flush...the flush is very effective.

My car is an automatic.
I have performed routine flushes on my car, roughly every 60-80k Km, with a few drain and fills in-between.
So If I use the drain & fill method and slowly switch to Mobil 1's ATF I should be ok?
Thanks again,
MIke

Well I made a post of this the other day, but didn't get any responses. Is there any discussion on switching from conventional to synthetic ATF, then back to conventional?
