I'm about to give my trusty 1999 2.5L 5 spd Contour to my son. I have lived with the rattling dash and defroster vent popping out for a couple of years now, but he wants to fix it.

I have the installation details for TSB 01B78 and the required part number (1S2Z-5404282-DA).

Seeing as this is well past any recall time I have 2 questions

1) What does the repair kit cost ?

2) Is it really worth it ? (Will it stop the dash rattle and defroster vent popping out)?

Thanks !

I have one in my possession right now. The install is a bit involved as you've seen from the instructions. A good father & son project if one/both of you is/are handy. It'll stop the rattle & popping out vent thingies as well as the dash warp/curl.

The cost is about $90 IIRC. I got mine for free from the dealer where I bought the car. Get a CEGer discount price from Signature Lincoln-Mercury.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
