if they aren't issues, and the car is paid off, then why sell it JUST to make yourself study?

Oval Port 3L w/ the option to turbo it down the road. Aren't you doing all of your own work? Why do you need $1000.00? You can pick up a motor for ~$400 and toss it in there, just to get the thing running. Don't go through all the hassle of a full rebuild if it doesn't need it. If the car runs fine after that, it's your decision to keep it or sell it. Like has been mentioned before, you can sell the car as it sits for pennies on the dollar, or put a few hundred into it and sell it for what it's worth!

I can't find a cheap running motor anywhere right now, but I have my choice of core blocks and heads for nothing, and if my intention is to go FI later, I should at least be smart and put forged pistons in now, that's how I'm looking at $1,000.

However, I made a discovery today, that raises new questions, but also suggest that the current motor is good. details are in an oil consumption post in the 3L forum. (or will be shortly)

Oh boy...

Get a reasonable stock SVT engine, bring the car up to par & drive it...if you want to go back to the 3.0, wait until after college.

I voted for you to throw the extra grand in for the oval port 3L and drive t the rest of the way through school. I dont think taking a $10,000 loan to turbo it is the greatest idea. Lets say you get that $10,000 into it and the next day some A-hole totals it for ya. You'll have nothing left but a much larger student loan!

I say get her running right an keep/sell it, but in the end, if its not nickle and diming you, it might be wise to keep it and get the most of your money from it. Once you can afford the turbo kit in cash then id go turbo, but dont take a loan out on something you cant get ins to cover if you get totalled.

take an extra $1000 out and fix it with either the SVT engine or the 3L. An extra $1000 in student loans is not going to be that much more. If you are seriously thinking about the turbo , don't do it. $10K?!?! You can get a decent camry for that much and you can drive that for the next 80 years and not have a problem and save up money and get a fun, fast(er) car.

If you can only justify putting a bandage on the issue, better to store it and wait (a couple years even will go by much faster than you think...) or to sell it.
