not where I live! its great here - the fastest you can get in the area.
so with a product like the linksys you can just hook it up to a cable line and use the net? My father is hooked up through comcast but pays for it in a package with his cable. Do I need to pay for their service or can I just hook it directly inline at the cable outlet? ( i have comcast cable but pay for a wireless slow ass connection)

You need to pay for the service; they won't send the digital signal (that the modem reads) to your house if you don't
All of my friends use Linksys modems and routers and love them. (My family has a few Linksys routers here but we are still renting our modem.) My only experience with D-Link is that one of my friends refuses to buy their stuff anymore since several products he's owned have broken just after warranty.

I TV digital signal and a modem signal are two different types of signals, so to answer you in short.
No, you can't go out and buy a cable modem and just hook it up, you'll have to buy the modem call Comcast, let them know you'd like to add internet access to your current Comcast account and that you are providing your own modem. They tell you how to set it up from there.
The only constant signal to a home is the basic feed for TV, nothing else.
