Hey Tour'guys,

I have this A/C problem since Aug of last year. When I start my Mystique, air from a/c is very cold. Go on the Highway no problem still cold, but If I get into city traffic stop and go with a outside temp 85 +, the air out of the wents becomes warm. Radiator is working, I checked it.

Clean the Condensor in the front of the radiator with some water (bugs and crap), It was missing a bit of freon so the local garage filled it up.

A friend that works in HVAC told me that he is 100 % sure it is from the high pressure side that is defective.

Last summer the Weather here in Montreal was not really hot and humid like this week-end, So the problem is more frequent now.

Any Ideas ?

Mystique 96 Zetec MTX, 100 K miles.

Thanks for your time,

Mario

And here is a quote from Ray

"PINPOINT TEST A: THE A/C DOES NOT OPERATE/DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY
A1: CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE A/C COMPRESSOR CLUTCH
A2: CHECK FOR MECHANICAL ERRORS
A3: CHECK THE A/C CYCLING SWITCH
A4: CHECK THE REFRIGERANT SYSTEM PRESSURE
A5: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT THE A/C CYCLING SWITCH - CIRCUIT 14S-CA17 (VT/OG)
A6: CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE DUAL PRESSURE SWITCH - CIRCUIT 15S-FA38 (GN/RD)
A7: CHECK THE DUAL PRESSURE SWITCH
A8: CHECK CIRCUIT 15S-RE9 OR 15S-RE9A (GN/BU)
A9: CHECK THE A/C CYCLING SWITCH C692 FOR OPEN
A10: CHECK CIRCUIT 15-FA12 (GN/BU) FOR VOLTAGE
A11: CHECK CIRCUIT 15-FA11 (GN/YE) FOR OPEN - PCM CONNECTED
A12: CHECK THE CIRCUIT 15-FA11 (GN/YE) FOR OPEN
A13: CHECK THE CIRCUIT 91S-FA11 (BK/YE) FOR OPEN
A14: CHECK THE A/C WOT RELAY
A15: CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE A/C CLUTCH SOLENOID - CIRCUIT 14S-CA6 (VT/YE)
A16: CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE A/C COMPRESSOR CLUTCH DIODE - CIRCUIT 14S-CA7 (VT/BU)
A17: CHECK THE A/C COMPRESSOR CLUTCH DIODE GROUND FOR OPEN - CIRCUIT 31-CA7 (BK)
A18: CHECK THE A/C COMPRESSOR CLUTCH DIODE
A19: CHECK CIRCUIT 31-CA6 (BK) FOR OPEN
A20: CHECK THE AIR DISTRIBUTION CONTROL SWITCH FOR VOLTAGE - CIRCUIT 15S-FA13 (GN/RD)
A21: CHECK CIRCUITS 15S-FA17, 15S-FA17A (GN/OG) OR 14S-CA17 (VT/OG) FOR OPEN
A22: CHECK CIRCUITS 15S-FA13 (GN/RD) FOR OPEN

Step A4 states that if the pressure is higher than 50PSI on the high side (after A1 A2 and A3 are verified to be in working order) then replace the A/C Cycling switch, as seen below:

Connect gauge set to port. High side reading must be above 169 kPa (50 psi).

l Is the high side pressure above 169 kPa (50 psi)?

¨ Yes

INSTALL a new A/C cycling switch. TEST the system for normal operation.

¨ No

CHECK and REPAIR the refrigerant system for leaks or low charge or incorrect A/C compressor clutch air gap. TEST the system for normal operation.

I know there are a ton of tests on that list, but I will be ready to elaborate more on any tests you come to, if need be.

The electric fan next to the radiator under the hood should come on when the A/C is on. The fan keeps air moving through the condenser.

Hi,

Yes it works. I checked that. I had warm air and I opened the hood to see that the Fan was on.
