My friend at Best Buy gets like 50% off these, but the website is saying they won't fit. Why won't they fit, is the mounting depth too deep or something? Here they are: Alpine 5x7's

The only thing I see is that the mounting holes are not the "Ford Freindly" pattern.
My infinity's are almost 3" deep and they fit... barely, but they fit.

Yeah no big deal at all. Best Buy, circuit city, Crutchfield... they all consider this situation as "WILL NOT FIT". When I worked at Best Buy, 90% of all available speakers we stocked would actually fit most cars, but we'd charge an extra pretty penny for "custom installation"... little did most customers know we just had to put a couple extra 1/4" screws in their door panel for them to work. Scandles
If you can install the speakers yourself, then you can drill 2 holes.

Pretty sure is is 3/16". You can do one of many things, though.
1. Pick up a package of 3/4" long self tapping sheet metal screws (about $1.00 at any hardware store) and not worry about drilling. Take one of the factory screws from the factory speaker and find some that are the same size or a little bigger. (i recomend this option, personally)
2. Get your drill bits out and find one that fits lossely inside the existing holes (don't want teh hole to be too big)

The size of the cones can vary slightly, but in most cases, they have provisions to mount in the factory holes without excess drilling. I can't think of anything that would give a smaller cone an advantage over a larger cone.

thats what I'm saying, why buy 5x7's if you can get the larger 6x8's?
in fact, I've heard you can even squeeze 6x9's in the back doors...
