Will a superchip from any other Ford cars fit on a contour?

Yes, as long as it's a Ford module. Part #1100 is what you would use. (Blue)

How much are chips and what kind of HP gain am I lookin at? I assume that the thermostat will have to be replaced correct?

Yes, the chip from other ford products can be re-burned to work in the SVT. No you do not need to change the thermostat. Yes you will need to run the highest octane fuel possible since the timing has been tweaked up. Power gains? Search the old posts. (Hint .. some computer codes are more responsive than others ... mine seemed to perk up in low-mid range and the extra 700 RPM added to the redline let me buzz it tighter ... probably not much gain in HP on top end though without additional mods)
