I searched and could not find a problem very similar to mine.
This problem has been going on for about 3 weeks now. The first time I noticed the coolant problem there was a big puddle of it under my car one day, after parking it to go into a store and it also set off the low coolant light.
So when I got home I filled it up and waited to see what happened. Drove it the next day, and all was fine. The day after that though, it did the same thing, leaked a huge amount and set off the low coolant light. This being after I drove the car to work. (I noticed the big coolant leak again.) These leaks are passenger side leaks and no hoses appear to be leaking.
So now I have had to fill it at least 4 more times since, because of this intermittent problem.
Could the coolant boil and blow a huge amount out of the overfill hose? I don't understand where this is happening. Oh, and I am pretty sure it is not the water pump.
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Nick

if you have too much coolant in your tank, it can push out the overflow hose and onto the ground once the system forces the excess coolant into the tank. how low does your tank get when your light comes on? have you let it sit once the light comes on(turn engine off) and wait 10-15 min and see how much coolant finally sets in the tank?

getting any strange gurgling noises from the car? If so, could be a stuck thermostat.
Otherwise, sounds like a pressure leak. When the car warms to full operating temp, is that when you get the leaks? Might be a crack in the cooland resevoir, or even a pin-hole coolant hose leak.
Next time you get the car fully warmed up, shut it off & pop the hood. As the car sits for the first several minutes, the coolant temp will rise a bit more & pressure will build a little higher before the cooling off phase begins. That's when you'll find the leak.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I was thinking that samething but I made sure that I didn't put too much in, also when the low coolant light comes on, the tank is down past the minimum line.

No strange gurgling noises, I have changed my thermostat about a year ago. It doesn't seem to leak until after the car has warmed up completly, then I park and shut it off. Then while cooling down it must be leaking. I now have noticed the car setting off the low coolant light in the morning before work then shuts off about 5 minutes later.
Thanks for your responses.

when you fill the tank, are you filling to the top of the tank or the MAX level line?

The Water pump will often cause that. The water pump won't leak until the cooling system is hot and under pressure.
Some auto repair shops can pressure test the cooling system and find the leak. Coolant system leaks often cause the head gasket to blow and the heat can cause engine damage.
