When I ordered a new powerstack filter to fit the 80mm maf, I decided to spend the little extra for the ram air snorkel and horn. Yes, I know it's not true ram air and that I'd have to drive 160mph for it to actually pressurize anything(assuming my filter was in a sealed box) but it does provide cool outside air to the engine, which is something we all know is very important with these engines.

Installed it yesterday, and it makes a nice difference on the highway, with no stalling in neutral problems as some have reported with their ram air setups.

Here's a pic from the outside:

Yes, I have it sticking out that far for a reason - to hopefully take advantage of the "pressure wave" on the front of the car.

And here's where it's barely connected on the inside: (heh)

I'll get the inside connection looking better once I get a chopsaw and shorten the BTR straight pipe.

I've got a better pic of the outside coming, but this is good enough to get the point across. smile

Blort, you one crazee som' byatch! smile

If you where anywhere near me I'd put my meter on there and see how much pressure/vacuum you have produced/reduced.

I.E., Looks good!

After a visit to Mirko Racing, He explained to our group that by the time the air goes into the engine bay and through the runners it is up to engine temp, so no difference.

He said an open air filter is the best your gonna get unless you of course drive 160mph.

Sorry Christopher, I'll have to disagree with Albert on this one.

For one simple reason - at a dyno day a few months back we tested a car with and without a heat shield installed, and with or without the hood open on cars with open filters. Without a shield or the hood open, the dyno results were markedly lower.

The air may be warmed up *slightly* passing through the runners - but if 2.5 duratecs are moving more than 500cfm at redline as has been mentioned before, that's not much time for air to pick up any real amount of heat before it gets "blowed up". smile

I agree with Dan. On the FAQ page, it is demonstrated that IATs 30-40F higher are present with an open KKM vs stock airbox. I can't believe the runners heat the air 30F in such a short time given the flow rates - maybe at idle. Furthermore, I dont think Albert or anyone else has measured air temp at that location, so I think he is guessing same as me. Besides, the runners are VERY HOT. If they did warm the air 30F, it would still be 30F cooler than without the airbox.
This is why I was considering ceramic coating the intake manifold lower surface (Swain Coatings will do this - $125).

Heh, actually the angle of the pic is deceiving, that hose actually does clear the pulley by a safe amount.

Blorton,

Where'd you get your powerstack filter & MAF adapter from? Part numbers? I just bought a 80mm MAF myself and need to get a new intake to fit. Thanks.
