I seem to recall that some folks were having trouble with aftermarket wheels and/or suspension - ymmv, but I hope you do ok.
That said, be careful what you say here wrt payouts and keep in mind that the Ins. co. will spread their costs out over all of us
Good that your buddy's doing better - when I heard about the accident (in the local news), they mentioned 'life threatening' injuries.

He was lucky that they weren't so life-threatening.
The combination of seat-belt, air-bag, and the sub-frame putting the engine in his legs and not chest let him be okay. So no internal injuries or head trauma, just damaged legs.
If one of those three were missing he would be simply dead! I'm glad he actually took my car as he has an older 88/89 Ford Truck, and an impact in that at the speeds (~100-110 each way) would definitely have been fatal.
Scary thought, eh !

Had my meeting with the appraiser today.
Basically he told me I'm pretty SOL for the mods ... if I had my vehicle appraised (which I will now do yearly) then it could have been rated as an SVT !!! Now my insurer never told me to do this, just told me to keep the invoices, so I'm happy that I learned this. I'd recommend getting this done so you don't get stung like I did.
As it wasn't appraised, he added a little cash in for me. Total is now nearly $ 7,000 which is not too bad in my opinion, but I surely wish I could have done better.

I'm not sure (since I've never insured an SVT), but I'd be willing to bet that the premiums on an SVT are higher than those for other 'tours. I know that when I insured my LX, I saved money 'cause it didn't say "Sport" on it's butt.
Nothing's ever free as far as insurance goes
Glad it's working out ok - how's the driver doing?

The premiums are higher, however not by a great deal. I'm finding that I will be paying $500 a year more now, and that includes being dropped from 4 star rating to 0 with a full claim on my account (and speeding tickets) since last year. The trade-off would have been an extra (approx.) $ 3,000 pay-out. Worth my while in my opinion, even if I end up paying more in the long-run ... an extra hit of $3k would have been good right now.

I think $7000 for an 8 year old car is pretty darn good.
I looked up the blue book value and it maybe worth $4500-5000 can.

Oh yeah!! Especially when we paid about $8k for it three years ago too.
I got an instant +$ 1,000 (or so) for being 'dealer maintained' too.

I can't believe they are giving you $7K for an 8 year old Contique . I would have thought $3K or $4K tops.

I know, I'm a bast aren't I!!!
The appraiser went to the dealer for info as it was dealer maintained ... I instantly got a gold star for that. I have an excellent rapport with my dealership's service guys too, they know me well, and my car, and all the little mods on it too. My dealership told me that they would give the best report ever for it ... also found out later that the appraiser used to be at school with the service guy too ... that, I imagine, elevated the credibility of the condition of the car.
To get my base price the appraiser phoned around for resale costs of mystiques from 3 used car dealers, for immaculate condition models with the same mileage (166,000km).
$ 5,500 $ 4,995 $ 4,495 ------- $ 4,996 average $ 1,050 Dealer maintained reconditioning ------- $ 6,046 Total ------- $ 5,546 Pay-out after deductible
I then had a meeting with the appraiser to re-asses the value to include all the mods & upgrades. This was when he told me I 'should' have had it appraised before too, then I could have been looking at SVT payout (circa $ 9,000 - 10,000).
The new pay-out is $ 6,966, less deductible is $ 6,466 because of this, plus GST & PST. I can also claim back my full road tax as the crash was before the date of the renewal too, so an extra $75 in theory.
All in all, I am VERY happy now! Pays to be a stubborn Brit!

Sorry no pics of the car. I didn't feel right taking them because of the blood in it.
