there are four holes - 2 on the left and 2 on the right- there are "speical" pins that you need to pull them out. YOu can try allen wrenches, those have worked for me in the past. YOu put them in there and push the ends that are in the radio towards the radio and that should release the clips that are holding it in place. The easiest way is to go to wall mart and pick up the pins though, only like $5 or something like that.

if you can't get the proper tools, a coat hanger will do the trick as well. Of course, don't expect it to be easy regardless. I used the DIN tools, and still couldn't get the bugger out. I wound up taking a screwdriver to it and destroying the radio in the process.

Unless you had someone SCREW IT IN, I can't see why it would be hard to remove at all.
insert both tools at once, angle the outer "u" bend away from the radio, so that the two points on the ends lean TOWARDS the radio, and then pull on both tools at the same time.. radio should have slid out like buttah..

I had the same problem. The stock stereo would not come out using the clips. I had to take the entire front face of the dash apart and bend them with pliers to push it out the BACK of the face plate. POS.
My wife's 2003 Escape...the sucker popped right out on the first try. I guess they just jiggle around in there over time or something...perhaps it was a design flaw for this dash from the start.
