Just maybe time for a new belt? Maybe I'm wrong, but with a std V belt, as it wears, the belt runs lower in the vees, so one might tighten the belt. More wear, tighten the belt. Sooner or later, that belt can be fidle string tight and not do its job. That is due to the belt running on the bottom of the pulley and not wedging itself in between the vEE sides of the pully. (I sure live in the past, don't I?)
As for the serp belts, I see them as just being multiple little vee belts bound in along side each other in one unit and the same might happen as with a standard vee belt. Slippage. I did replace one serp belt on my Sube XT-6. I could not run it tight enough to shut it up. New belt, no squeel. Your belt might also just be glased. Would still need to change the belt or try something clever.
